Jesse Kudler Biography
Jesse Kudler is a musician, composer, performer, and sound artist who plays and works with guitar, electronics, pipe organ, recordings, synthesizers, radios, tapes, movement, and text. His work is based in listening, improvisation, and collaboration (with people, devices, sites, and spaces) to explore ambiguous affects, perception, time, authorship, intention, agency, ethics, and modes and practices of listening.

Kudler lives in Philadelphia, PA (USA). Current and past projects include solo guitar improvisation; solo church organ performance; performance duo with dancer Christina Gesualdi; multi-channel site specific sound installation; duo with trumpeter Graham Stephenson; duo with autoharpist Chandan Narayan; duo with computer musician Ian M. Fraser; HZL, an environmental electronics duo with Tim Albro; a site-specific composition for church organ, guitar, and recordings, with Chris Forsyth; and a commissioned sound piece for the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program.

He was a 2019 Exchange Fellow at Elsewhere and performed at {Re}HAPPENING 2019 at Black Mountain College. He has performed as part of the Cage: Beyond Silence festival, Sonic Circuits Festival, No Idea Festival, Dartmouth Festival of New Musics, and the Phoneme Festival, and across the US and Canada. He has presented workshops at universities and community spaces. Kudler holds a BA in Music from Wesleyan University.             

Kudler was the co-founder and Co-Director of the Philadelphia Sound Forum, a concert presentation resource. At International House Philadelphia, he curated the Sonic Arts Union Retrospective and co-created and co-curated the “Wave Currents” series of live music events with live visuals.
